Extractions can typically be completed in one visit to our Houston, TX dentist office. Patients recover within a few days and experience little to no discomfort during treatment. Dr. Pruitt provides a warm, welcoming dentist office environment in addition to sedation dentistry options for patients’ optimal comfort.
Tooth Extractions What to Expect
Tooth extractions are a routine dental procedure. Dr. Pruitt is highly trained and experienced in the removal of teeth and patients will remain comfortable during treatment.
The procedure will begin by loosening the tooth and releasing the ligaments that attach it to the root. The tooth will then be gently removed from the socket by rocking it back and forth. The area is thoroughly cleaned and sutured closed to prevent infection. Depending on the location and health of the patient, the extracted tooth may be able to be replaced with a dental implant at the time of removal, or at another scheduled appointment.
We will provide post care instructions to ensure a healthy recovery and to avoid any complications. In most cases a soft diet is recommended for a few days. Should you experience sudden or sharp pain, renewed bleeding or a fever contact our office right away for further instructions.
Replacing Extracted Teeth
Dr. Pruitt provides patients with in house dental implant treatment plans for the replacement of missing teeth. Dental implants offer long term oral health benefits and are the most natural way to restore lasting function, form, and beauty to your smile. Dental implants are surgically implanted into the root canal and function like a natural tooth root. Implants provide structural support for the jaw and prevent deterioration and recession of the jaw bone. Dental implants also help to prevent shifting of the teeth, gum disease, and further tooth loss.
IV sedation certified dentist Dr. Pruitt offers sedation dentistry options for patients optimal comfort during a tooth removal procedure. Sedation options will be discussed prior to treatment and will take into consideration the patients overall physical health. Dr. Pruitt offers nitrous oxide, oral conscious sedation, and IV sedation.
