Sedation Dentistry An Overview
Fear of the dentist is a very real, and serious concern. Dental anxiety prevents many patients from visiting the dentist on a regular basis. Avoiding six-month dental check ups can lead to complex oral health concerns that compromise the health, function, and aesthetics of the smile. Dr. Pruitt has over 35 years of highly trained dental experience and has built a patient focused dental practice.
Dr. Pruitt takes time with each patient to discuss their specific concerns and fears, helping many to overcome dental anxiety by educating them on their dental health and what to expect during treatment. We also offer sedation options for patients who desire to feel completely relaxed and stress-free during their procedure.
Sedation dentistry can allow patients to receive the dental care they need or desire without feeling any discomfort or anxiety. Sedation dentistry can be used to help patients receive their regular dental cleaning, or for a total smile makeover. Sedation dentistry can allow Houston dentist, Dr. Eddie Pruitt, to perform multiple procedures in one sitting, saving the patient time, money and stress.
Sedation Dentistry What to Expect
Dr. Pruitt will ensure that all patients are fully informed and prepared for treatment using sedation dentistry. Depending on the type of sedation dentistry you choose, you may need to arrange for transportation to and from your visit.
Sedation Dentistry Service Options
- Nitrous Oxide: Also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is ingested through a breathing mask. The gas will allow the patient to feel totally relaxed while remaining alerted and responsive. Nitrous oxide takes effect and wears off immediately.
- Oral Conscious Sedation: Taken in pill form, oral sedation will often include a dose to be taken at home prior to your treatment. Dr. Pruitt will discuss specific instructions before your treatment appointment so that patients are well informed and prepared. Oral conscious sedation may take several hours to fully wear off and patients will be required to have a ride to and from their treatment.
- IV Sedation: Dr. Pruitt is a certified IV Sedation dentist. IV Sedation puts the patient to sleep, can be highly controlled and will be carefully monitored. Patient safety is our top priority and a patient’s medical history will be considered before administering IV Sedation.
